LAST SHIPPING DAY FOR CHRISTMAS - 19th December 2024

May Madness

May 30, 2019

It’s been a madly busy May with lots of going on.  Our Open and Spring Meeting were both hugely successfully and the sun shone for both which was an added bonus.

We had our joint Captains’ Day the weekend before last where we had set up a Cross country golf course (my husband was chief designer) and experienced playing the course in a slightly different way.  To give you an idea, a few of the holes we sampled were playing from the 1 st tee to the 3 rd green, playing backwards from in front of the 5 th green to the 4 th green and then a par 6 (7 for the ladies) which went from the 8 th tee to the 9 th green.    Over 100 members took part and we had a shotgun in the morning followed by a rolling buffet lunch and then another shotgun in the afternoon.  It was a fabulous day.

I’ve just returned, quite exhausted from a lot of organising, from our Ladies Away weekend which was tremendous fun.  We went to Seaford which I cannot recommend enough.  I had great fun putting together goodie bags for everyone – lots of SR products – torches, pencils, ballmarkers, pens and then slightly more “outside the box” items such as plasters, Ibuprofen, sweets, snack bars and tissues.  On the first day, we played fourball better ball stableford with the added bonus of a free kick, a throw, a length of string which could be cut off on small putts in place of a shot and a “Me too” where you could place your ball off a tee shot beside your playing partners.  The scoring was very high and we all realised these added features would be quite useful on medal and stableford days!

In the evening we had champagne pre-dinner drinks, followed by a five course dinner, a prize giving and various “awards” distributed throughout the course of the evening.  Who’s The Dude also made an appearance – widely available – I’d recommend it if you want a real giggle!

Day 2 saw a team event in 3’s – best 1 out of 3 on par 5’s, 2 out of 3 on par 4’s and all 3 to count on par 3’s with 2 bonus double up on point holes.  There was also a bit of fun that involved each team having to take a funny photo with a pair of pyjama bottoms my son had made in textiles. ( It was a take on last year’s Granny knickers where your forfeit for going in a bunker or 3 putting was to wear the knickers for a hole!!) Some extremely good efforts but the winning pic saw a sunbather wearing said PJs lying in the bunker protected with a golf umbrella with her playing partner attempting to hit a shot off her midriff.  You had to be there but we did have some fun!

A few days respite before a busy weekend of golf and next stop Invitation and Lady Captain’s Day still to finalise………
