My wonderful holiday to the USA seems like a distant memory now as I literally returned to a September of event after event and still a few more to come and then I’m relieved to say it really quietens down until Christmas.
September saw Club champs (a gruelling 36 hole medal), our Autumn meeting, drawn foursomes, our mixed invitation to name but a few events….
I’ve had more fun with the weather and very sadly we had to postpone our Charity Golf Day at the end of September to the end of October. Fingers crossed the weather holds for the new date.
We also had a rather crazy Autumn invitation last Tuesday. It went from sunshine at 9.20am, the shotgun fired at 9.30am and then torrential rain by 9.40am. By the time we got to the 7 th, we were soaked through, it was like someone was tipping buckets of water over our heads and the umbrellas were interfering with our chat. Golf had become a bit irrelevant. The greens were flooding too and I had called the office and was ready to get them to sound a claxon to call everyone in. Anyway, I held my nerve thankfully as the rain suddenly stopped and by the end of the round, it was blazing sunshine. Crazy day. Our very own Sue Rogers had kindly organised the prize table for this event and we had a wonderful combination of Autumnal kitchen goodies - fabulous decorative tupperware containers (always useful), lots of foody bits and the new SR water bottles and towels (featuring the Art deco ladies) which are literally selling like hot cakes and co-ordinated beautifully with the prize table. Sue had even decorated the table (and it formed part of the prize) with tomatoes on the vine and shelled peas. It looked really effective.
Last Friday saw our first ever Ladies Club dinner which saw over 60 of our lady members donning their glad rags for an evening celebrating friendship and ladies golf. It was so lovely to see such an incredible cross section of our lady members (the youngest being 20 and the oldest being 91) in the same room. It was an opportunity to present all of the trophies that have been won over the course of the year. We had a fun game of Heads and Tails and even managed to raise £150 for charity. The bar was rather noisy afterwards which our trusty bartender was not quite used to but I think good fun was had by all and hopefully it will become a firm fixture in the diary!
Now to focus on the next event – our next exchange day……..
